Major Phone Companies To Establish Global Linux Mobile

Major phone companies today announced their intent to create the world's first global, open Linux-based mobile devices platform. Motorola, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Samsung Electronics, and Vodafone are the main players of this initiative.
The Open Linux Mobile initiative aims to lower the development cost and increase the flexibility of mobile platform.
"Motorola is a firm believer in the power of open platforms and the promise of Linux for mobile," said Greg Besio, Motorola Corporate Vice President, Mobile Devices Software.
